What is Outplacement?

A term used to describe assistance in a job search, paid for by an organization, for employees "placed out" of that organization.

What will the outplacement services workshop be all about?

It will address how to manage the emotions of getting on with life. According to experts in stress management, after death and divorce, job loss is the third greatest cause of grief, loss being the catalyst in all three.

Additionally, all participants will be given expert advice on how to improve their personal job search skills in these three critical areas:
  • Self-Marketing - Personal self-confidence building; developing a resume for those who don't have one or critiquing and revising resumes for those who do and want to update theirs.
  • Networking - How to create a network to help participants penetrate the "hidden job market" and research for opportunities.
  • Self-Presentation - Preparation for a job interview: informational interviews; telephone interviews; face-to-face interviews. What to expect and how to be confident that the next interview will be successful.
How will they be conducted and what are the"take-aways"?

They will be interactive, hands-on and the presenters will tailor each session to the needs of those in attendance. Participants will have to "work at it" each day to get the most out of it.

The presenters will present topics drawing upon personal experiences, case studies from job search handbooks, recent articles from periodicals and research on the Internet. The workshop facilitators will cover these subjects in detail using tried and true reinforcement techniques that will insure that our participants will get the most out of this experience.

Each participant will walk away from the workshops with:
  • Their own "elevator statement", their own resume
  • Their own personal networking plan and a basic understanding of how to use the Internet for job searches including new found research techniques
  • Newly acquired interviewing competencies

Conclusion/Summary:
Each participant will be given a number of handouts and will have developed their own tools that will make them feel more confident for having attended. The over-riding goal is
TO GET EACH PARTICIPANT TO GRAB ONTO THE NOTION OF A FRESH BEGINNING AND LANDING ON THEIR FEET, FEET FIRST.
